Post-Workout Muscle Fatigue Watermelon Slushy

After feeling the burn, whether on the treadmill, in a barre studio, or at home practicing yoga it’s important to give our muscles a little R&R. After a long workout, I like to reward not only my muscles, but my taste buds with this deliciously refreshing post-workout slushy.

Almost all of the ingredients help ease muscle soreness, aid in muscle repair, and can even prevent muscle fatigue during future sweat sessions! Since studies have found that consuming watermelon after exercise can prevent muscle fatigue, it’s my main ingredient in this slushy. Also, since watermelon is 91% water, it’s able to rehydrate the body after working up a sweat. An added benefit to this pink-red fruit is that it has lycopene, an antioxidant that protects against heart disease and cancer. Greek yogurt is added not only for protein, which our muscles need in order to grow, but also to add a little fat, which helps the body absorb the antioxidant lycopene better. The cherries and mint have natural anti-inflammatory agents that can also help ease pain. By drinking this regularly, it can help you not only meet, but exceed all of your fitness goals!
